After raising £2,000 for CPSL Mind in 2024 and an incredible £13,000 for six local charities in 2025, the BIG FISH OFF returns for 2026.
Organised by Kevin Johnson of CB Groundworks & Construction Ltd, in partnership with Cambridge United Foundation and Cambridge Charity Fundraisers, this unique challenge sees Cambridge United Stadium Manager and Head Groundsman, Ian Darler BEM, attempt to catch 200lb of fish in just 10 hours - the equivalent weight of a 14.2-stone person. An independent verifier will be on site to confirm the total catch.
The fundraising target for 2026 is £10,000. Kevin Johnson has pledged to donate £1,000 once public donations reach £5,000, with an additional £500 if Ian lands 250lb of fish.
Date: Thursday 16 July 2026
Location: Frasers Fishery, Little Downham, Ely
All funds raised will be shared equally between four local charities:
Cambridge United Foundation - Using the power of sport to support education, wellbeing, inclusion, and community development across Cambridgeshire.
East Anglia Children’s Hospices (EACH) - Providing specialist palliative care and vital family support for babies, children, and young people with life-threatening conditions across East Anglia.
Cambridge Acorn Project - Delivering long-term therapeutic support to children and families who have experienced trauma and abuse.
CPSL Mind - Supporting people across Cambridgeshire, Peterborough, and South Lincolnshire with mental health recovery, advocacy, and anti-stigma work.
Ian Darler said: “Every pound raised makes a difference. I’m looking forward to taking on another challenge and hope the community will once again get behind it to support these four fantastic local charities who do so much for our community.”
